This week, on Episode 38 of Serving Our Nation, I had the opportunity of speaking to David Gillespie and Eric Stetson. David retired from the US Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and, being an 82nd Division man, has over a hundred-fifty parachute jumps under his belt. He also has more than 25 years of proven success in the management of International, FMS, and Direct Commercial Sales as well as Domestic aviation programs. Eric, also a retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel, served in a multitude of capacities over his twenty-plus years in the Army. He has experience consulting for education, leadership, and team performance development. Along with his current position as North East Director for FourBlock, Eric has a passion for supporting fellow veterans through organizations such as the Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network and the Delaware Valley Veterans Consortium. Both these gentlemen serve with me on the executive board of our local Association of the United States Army chapter, and I can personally attest to their willingness to serve others. Dr. Paul McCullough had an opportunity to interview Mr. Robert Bowyer and Colonel (Retired) Steve Miska. Robert served multiple tours in combat and shared how his faith and local Church have helped him through difficult times. He also explained how his non-profit, Operation Black Sheep, helps Vietnam Veterans find hope and healing. Steve Miska, also a combat veteran, recounted the incredible experiences he had on Active Duty, including work on the National Security Council for President Obama and building an underground railroad in Afghanistan. Steve continues to serve others through his First Amendment Advocacy, as well as his business focused on servant leadership. This is one episode that will truly make you appreciate Veterans Day and the sacrifice millions of veterans have made for our country.

MG Simerly currently serves as the Commanding General of Fort Lee and the Combined Arms Support Command. He shared his perspective on the opportunity to lead and serve troops during his 32 year military career, as well as how to balance his faith, family, and career. Mrs. Dailey is the wife of the former Sergeant Major of the Army, Dan Dailey, and recounted her experiences as a senior Army spouse and the director of Family Readiness at AUSA. These two humble leaders represent the best of our Army and illustrate the blessings a person receives when they faithfully serve others in their care.

Deborah discussed Hope Haven Outreach and her ministry with prisons and street evangelism. Judy talked about her work as a chaplain for incarcerated women and her business, Red Lettered Words. These women don’t know each other, but ironically had the same message – we are called to show love to others because everyone has value. Your life will be blessed from the gentle words of these two women who put others ahead of themselves.

Dr. Vance Drum talked about his extensive 40+ years in prison ministry and how he has seen faith revolutionize the culture of a prison. Dr. Drum also serves as a Pastor of a small Church and highlighted that he never thought he would go into ministry, but God had other plans for him and it’s been an unforgettable journey. Dr. Paul McCullough had the pleasure of speaking to a dynamic husband and wife couple who are making a tremendous difference in their community, Mr. Michael Van Stine and his wife Kathleen. They discussed their passion for health care, social work, and those whom society may undervalue – veterans, elderly, and at-risk animals. They have turned their passion into a non-profit called the SpectraCare Foundation and are changing lives by letting people know they have worth. This is an episode you certainly don’t want to miss.

On Episode 30 of Serving Our Nation, I had the pleasure to speak with two special guests, Dr. Ken Hartman and Fr. Jim Drucker. Ken is a veteran and the former president of Drexel Online. He founded Our Community Salutes which supports future service members and their families. Jim, also a veteran, served as a chaplain in the Air Force and is a Catholic priests. He now goes by his radio name, Doo-Wop Priest.

On Episode 29 of Serving Our Nation, I had the opportunity to speak with Pastor Arlena Corzine and Mr. Nicholas Hoyt. Pastor Arlena is the executive Pastor at Kingsway Church and has dedicated her life to others. She is also the director of LifeGroups and Kingdom Builders programs which enabled her to help others through a new perspective extending her compassion towards others who she might not have encountered before. Nicholas is currently the director of the Hometown Heroes Project which is an organization designed to give back to those who help make our communities a better place. He was also Interviewed by The Washington Post for his volunteer work because of his great servant leadership toward others.

On Episode 28 of Serving Our Nation, I had the pleasure to speak with two special guests, Mr. Justin Behrens and COL Dave Davis. Justin is presently the CEO/Executive Director of Keystone Mission, a faith-based homeless rescue shelter in the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, PA area. Justin is a veteran who faced combat in Iraq and also served at the detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Currently, COL Davis serves as the director of admissions at Penn State University. He is also a member of the Army Reserves and has dedicated his life to serving others.

On Episode 27 of Serving Our Nation, I had the honor of bringing two gentlemen onto the show who both served in the US Army. Bill Kaemmer joined the United States Army in 1989 and attended basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Upon graduation, he attended Advanced Individual Training to become a chaplain assistant at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Bob Thomas is a lifelong mentor and friend of mine. He joined East Stroudsburg University's (ESU) tenure-track faculty in 2019, with 26 years of college and university administration experience and four years of full-time faculty teaching experience. Bob served in public accounting with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) in their Philadelphia office for five years, prior to his career in higher education. Bob is a veteran who retired from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 2004 at the rank of Major after 23 years of service.

Dr. Paul McCullough interviewed two very special servant leaders, Ms. Collie Turner and Ms. Peg Schofield. Collie discussed how she was introduced to organic farming by her family, her current pursuit of official training to help grow her knowledge of horticulture, and her courageous move to “push the button” and launch Heroic Gardens – an organization dedicated to helping veterans process their traumatic experiences through the healing properties of horticulture. Peg explained how she has been helping those less fortunate, including disabled veterans, find new ways of life by using plants to help people improve their physical and mental well-being. Their stories demonstrate God has a plan for everyone and chasing your passion for something can create a happy lifestyle while serving others along the way.

Chaplain Brandt spoke about his own extensive ministry journey and how he coupled that with serving as a military chaplain. Their stories of faith clearly demonstrate that God is in control of their lives and He has a special plan for each of us.
